Pilot Summary
Harper Graves moves to Gloucester, Massachusetts for a fresh start. After growing up in the foster system for half her life, she’s starting her freshman year of college in the town her family would visit every summer growing up to feel close to the parents she lost. A startling encounter the night before school starts leads to her nearly being mugged in an alley but is saved when she uses her powers— something previously only used alone— to defend herself and get to safety. While she may think she’s out of the woods, she soon discovers that others saw her display of power. After several conversations and much convincing, Harper discovers that she’s not the only one with the ability to wield energy as she can. There’s a whole community of Light Dealers who can help her learn who she is and what she’s capable of.
Series Premise
Dark Energy focuses on the science behind “magic.” Each of the main four Light Dealers major in something related to their powers and their strong suits. In episode one, Harper has her first encounter with a Dark Bringer, the group of wayward Dealers who want to use the natural abilities Dealers have that keep the balance in the world for control and power, and is exposed to the dark side of this new community she’s become part of. Throughout the series, Harper and her friends will dive into the history of Light Dealers, solve the mystery of what happened to Harper’s parents, go through the day-to-day struggles of being a college student (tests, romance, conflict), and eventually face off against the Dark Bringers who want to eradicate their kind. The consequences of messing with the balance of the universe will inevitably play a role in opening up new plot lines for later seasons and create new problems to be solved by the crew.
